Giving Back....You Guys Rock!

This may not look like a lot but these boxes are jammed full plus there are 2 bags on the side you can't see. Take a moment to think about all the smiles you will be responsible for those less fortunate in Houston. There will be at least 100 kids who will have at least one awesome new toy because of you. Whether you donated this year or not you are still part of E&A and are what make it possible to make our food drives, toy drives and other fundraisers possible. I'm really proud of what we accomplished this year and I can't wait to do even more good next year. Thanks to all of you for making so many kids happy in Houston this Christmas! Today we are also mailing a check to the Houston Food Bank for $220. You guys rock! Events And Adventures Houston

Pheromone Dating....How Do You Smell?

We took part in an evening of choosing dates by sniffing each other’s dirty laundry. Pheromone dating is based on the laws of attraction.
People must wear the same t-shirt for several days and allow the opposite sex to smell your shirt to see if they are attracted to your “funkiness” to see if there is an instant attraction.
“It just sounded like a unique event so I thought, well why not, let’s try it,”
No perfumes, deodorants or lotions are allowed in this experiment.

You May Think You Know Someone…But Do You Really?

They might just be a murderer as we found out last Friday at Murder by Chocolate; Houston’s best murder mystery experience.  It’s so much fun to see people change into character and participate.  It’s not just putting on a funny hat or a wig; watching your friends act and participate in the theatre production makes for a hilarious night.  We always find out who’s hiding their real acting talent at these special events!  If you missed this one don’t worry, this is a club favorite and we’ll be back! Events And Adventures Houston

Live From New York.....It's Events And Adventures!

Flying in from all over the country… we’re finally here in the Big Apple!!  Imagine meeting someone for the first time… in New York… for your first time in the city!  If the distraction of the traffic isn’t enough, what about the buildings and architecture, the buzz of Times Square, the roar of the night clubs, or even the scents from the food trucks lining the street?  For most of us, it was our first time here… as we walked to our dinner location this evening, I loved hearing the “OMG’s” and “Look at that!” from the group behind me, as I led them down 5th Avenue, then over to 7th, through Times Square… the light was enough to want us to put our shades on, but standing in the middle of the glowing lights, I saw the awe in their faces… as people surrounded us, walking about, not caring that it was our first time here… we took pictures, we looked at our maps… we were tourists tonight, and we were ok with that!  As we walked, we thought about our feet and possibly questioned the shoes we wore today, but when we finally hit the famous Carnegie Deli, got seated at our own table and got right to ordering, we knew the walk was worth it!  As we look at the menu, we see other plates going out to other tables… “Woah” and “Is that the size??” is what came out of their mouths… but as we got our own plates set in front of us, we couldn’t help but take some photos!  And don’t forget the New York Cheesecake for dessert… I have never tasted anything like it… as we talked about what we wanted to see and to plan our next day of adventures, I couldn’t help but think about how great an opportunity this was to meet some fellow E&A friends from our clubs around the country, let alone, check off a New York City visit on our bucket lists!  And on only day 1, all I have to say is… “Oh New York… we have only just begun!” This blog was written by our Event Host Megan from Minneapolis! Thanksgiving....Food, Football and New Friends!

Thanksgiving is the time of year to give thanks but it doesn’t mean we can have fun!  We had a grand event at our clubhouse that saw over 30 singles stop by for good food, football and new friends.  Our turkey wrapped in bacon came out perfectly and we fryed up everything we could find in the deep fryer including Armadillo Eggs (stuffed jalapeƱo’s wrapped in sausage & ritz crumbs).  The football was good and we ended up with more food than we knew what to do with!  It was a fun day to celebrate after Sunday’s volleyball tournament/canned food drive that raised over 80lbs of food & $200 for the Houston Food Bank.  Events And Adventures Houston

Rain, Cold And Bad Weather Was No Match For Our Will To Have Fun!

Fighting our fear of heights, making new friends and getting the adrenaline pumping was our only goal last week as we took on the high ropes challenge at the Conroe YMCA.  We all got harnessed up and did our best not to fall off!  It was a little too muddy for the team wall so we’ll save that for next time! We may not be ready to join the circus, but it sure was a heck of a time! Events And Adventures Houston

Today is another really PROUD day for all the members of Events & Adventures. I'm heading to the food bank soon to donate all the canned food items and cash you raised. Over $200 and a lot of canned food were donated. You guys showed up in force event though it was 40 degrees and all you guys played your tails off! Congrats to the winners. Big ups to everyone who came out and cheered for our people especially Darrin for going all out cheering with the face paint & thanks to the hosts Kevin & Melanie. Big thanks to The Washington Avenue Drinkery for donating prizes and hosting the court! So far this year we have raised over $3k for charity, tons of toys for tots and now a lot of food for the needy people of Houston! I'm really honored to be your Events Manager! You guys rock! - Reid

What is Wallyball?

Wallyball!!  What is it?  Most people don’t have a clue but we sure do.  It’s a wacky game of volleyball played indoors in a racquetball court.  Every month we reserve a court just for our members to go in and whack away!  Wallyball is really unique because unlike volleyball, where height and jumping ability is superior, knowing how to hit off the walls in wallyball is just as important!  It takes some getting used to but when you figure it out it is a lot of fun…not to mention a really fun way to burn some calories before our Thanksgiving feast! Events And Adventures Houston

Another Awesome E&A Trip Coming Up!

Can't wait to hang out with over 40 of my E&A friends on the 18th Annual Events and Adventures Whistler Ski Trip. We will be leaving on Thanksgiving, but will get there in time for a wonderful Thanksgiving feast with our E&A family. We will be staying in the Village for easy access to Chairlifts and Gondolas for some AWESOME skiing during the day and all the nightlife at night! We let you know how it all turns out, but if it is anything like past years there will be much to talk about!                  Events And Adventures Houston

Cheering On Our Hometown Team!

You couldn't have written a better script for our first Houston Rockets basketball experience of 2013!  First off; our lower level seats were amazing.  There’s nothing like being right down by the action for a sweet discounted price!  The Rockets showed off their talent as Dwight Howard had a big first half and Jeremy Lin finished the game strong with a game high 31 points!  It wasn't easy though as The Rockets needed double overtime to defeat the Raptors.  Meeting new people, having fun & cheering on our hometown team is a winning combination!

November to Remember!

October is over now it's time for a November to remember!  The weather is beautiful and being outside this month is going to bring the people out!  Sand volleyball on Tuesday was one of the largest crowds ever and we're going to keep the good times rollin' on.  The end of the year brings about a lot of stress so while it's still only November let's have some fun!  We've still got a few great seats left for the Rockets game next week and Games next Saturday Night will be huge!  Don't forget to sign up for the big Sunday Funday & Canned Food Drive later this month!

Our Big Trip to Peru....

For those of you that were not able to go on this trip, here is a part of their Adventure as told by your very own Event Manager Reid who was the Event Host for this trip.....
I took this picture at our basecamp at Soraypampa, Peru roughly 3,800 meters up in the Andes Mountains.  After completing the first days 7 hour hike in the lead group I see a bright light of confidence and accomplishment in my eyes.  Day 2 would destroy that light like a waterfall crushing the faint light of a candle.  After “sleeping” through rough winds, cold temperatures and a choir of wild dogs; the banging on our tent at  5 AM wasn’t the best wake up call I have ever had.  This was the start of the most challenging day of my life.  Fighting altitude, rough terrain and fatigue I would eventually reach the height of our trek 15,220 ft…before lunch;  A grueling 4 hour hike up over 3,000 feet in a matter of hours.  As I passed another adventurer up the trail he said something to me I would never forget.  He was much older than me and he looked at me through tired yet excitedly hopeful eyes and said Have you ever had so much fun being miserable?” It was a quote that I will always remember because I never want to forget that the things in life worth striving for often require the most challenging journeys.  Learning to love the journey is what Events & Adventures is all about every single day.

All of our Trips are open to members from any of our Clubs.

Congratulation Laura and Chris!

I'm engaged to the most amazing man, counting the days until I'm his wife, and I never would have met him without E&A. We first met when I was hosting Broomball and we saw each other at various events over the next two months, and finally played a game together at a games night and starting spending more time together. He finally asked me out, and we recently celebrated our two year anniversary. Thank you E&A for helping our paths cross!

Halloween Bash and Pub Crawl!

Halloween Bash!
Pub Crawl
Halloween parties are so nice we did it twice!  One of our favorite events is themed Pub Crawls so we decided to dress up on Friday for a little fun before our big Halloween Party.  About 40 of us hit Washington Avenue in full costume and we made a splash.  We started with a free beer party at Blue Moose and end up doing the Monster Mash at Taps. Saturday night though was the main event!  90 of the single best people
of
Houston gathered at the E&A clubhouse for dancing, crystal ball reading, photo booth, food, drinks,  blackjack & prizes. We had a dance off  for Backstreet Boys tickets & the 8 foot  tall Sasquatch won the big costume   contest taking home 2 tickets to see Zedd  and a ticket to our Annual NYE Bash!

Games Night!

The beautiful fall weather in Houston has made Games Nights at the clubhouse so nice.  We can open the doors and windows and enjoy being outside for games like Giant Jenga, Bean Bag Toss, Guesstures & Flip Cup.  This past Saturday we welcomed over 30 new members to the club and played games like Cards Against Humanity, Taboo & Blackjack!  The potluck was delicious as well.  Big thanks to everyone who cooked delicious treats & brought food! A big happy birthday to Chris B!  Thanks for spending your big day partying with us!

Lights, Volleyball, Action!

Our favorite volleyball spot has added new nets & lights so we can enjoy outdoor volleyball action every Tuesday night for the rest of the year!  The heat has finally broken so even if you don’t love volleyball you will love relaxing on the patio with a cool drink.  Happy Hour is all day and you can watch your favorite channels on the new flat screen TV’s outside! So get up off the couch and join all of your E&A friends for a great night of Volleyball!

Long Weekends Are The Best!

One of my favorite times of year is the Labor Day long weekend.  The 4-day adventure always gives us a chance to form lasting friendships with our Houston folks as well as our Dallas club!  This year we enjoyed swimming, fishing, wineries, Dinosaur Valley SP, games all while spending 3 nights at Cleburne State Park.  The air conditioned facilities we reserved were perfect because the temperature outside was in the hundreds all weekend!  The spring-fed lake was really enjoyable and we were able to float and relax.  I can’t wait for our next long weekend adventure!

Season of Firsts!

This summer 39 adventurers throughout the U.S. & Canada landed in Las Vegas, Nevada for a grand adventure!  What was billed as a bucket list excursion to raft 90 miles of the one and only Grand Canyon ended up being a story of friendship and firsts.
For many this trip was a first to the Las Vegas strip, Hoover Damn, white water rafting, horseback riding, ATV riding, skeet shooting, helicopter ride, first time seeing the Milky Way & shooting stars and the first time sleeping outside under the stars in the desert!  Even a self-proclaimed adventurer like me experienced the first thrill of sitting shotgun in a helicopter diving through the canyons and speeding 30 miles per hour through a sun setting desert in a roaring ATV!
Strong bonds of friendship formed early in the trip and strengthened through shared mealtimes and river duties.  A circle of camp chairs at night became the stage for two adventurers, who had never met, to give out nightly awards and share stories of the day’s great accomplishments and comical blunders.
When we had tried every adventure and our trip was coming to a close, one member from our Vancouver club quietly asked the guides if she could experience being rescued out of the water.  She quietly, and without warning, jumped into main channel of frigid 55 degree rushing water.  Luckily I happened to have my camera out!  We quickly undocked our boats and found her enjoying the peace and quite of being alone in the middle of the Colorado River.  She didn’t appear to want to be rescued from the bliss and peacefulness of the Grand Canyon…but we never leave anyone behind because it is just a short time before our next life changing adventure…
